Maladie was filmed and directed by Ana for the Timecode:NOLA Super 8 One Reel Contest, a format in which filmmakers create a work on a single roll of film with all editing decisions made in-camera. The black-and-white silent film premiered unseen at One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans, accompanied by live performance from MC Chris Trew and pianist Ratty Scurvics, with the generous collaboration of a small crew of local artists. The film was awarded First Prize in the competition.
